The lockdown has put an end to gigging, rehearsing and recording with the band but we have kept ourselves busy by recording acoustic versions of some of our songs and made videos at home for our ‘Vice-O-Lation’ project. We’ve embraced the DIY ethic for many years so we are used to generating ideas, recording music and getting stuff done at home when most bands would probably surrender until lockdown lifts.
Towards the end of 2020 we recorded an acoustic version of Motorhead classic, ‘Bomber’ a song that we are very familiar with as we used to play it live twinned with our own song ‘Spitfire’.
In January 2021 we decided to record another 3 Motorhead songs, ‘Ace Of Spades’ ‘Dancing On Your Grave’ and ‘No Class’ and give them the Vice-O-Lation treatment including lap steel guitar, Honky Tonk piano and brass. The aim was to inject some foot tapping goodness into proceedings and literally put the ‘Count’ in Country……
Once the songs were finished we needed to find somewhere to film accompanying videos, and bless ‘im, Noel our old mucker from the Croydon Cartoon days very kindly agreed to let us use his venue The Cavern in Raynes Park, South London.
We took inspiration from the outlaw western image that Motörhead had during the Ace Of Spades era. There had to be cowboys, card games, a mariachi band, replica shooters and line dancers…..a lovely lady called Jo from Fire Island went to the trouble of choreographing a line dance for us and oh what fun we had learning the steps at home whilst bumping into guitar stands, tripping over amplifiers and falling over the cats… Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers we aint!!!
Thanks to Ant, Simon Legge, Barry Foster, Rod, Donna, Brogan, Graham, Susan and Josie for being the stars that studded the filming and to Jo from Fire Island for choreographing the line dance. Mucho gracias to Noel Nevin, Gary and Georgia for making us welcome at the Cavern and facilitating the video shoot (and plying us with booze!!)
